Educational and Training Activities:  Southwest Border AHEC recognizes that today’s youth will be the next generation of healthcare professionals. Our goal is to inspire elementary, secondary and college-level students by providing them the chance to participate in different educational and training activities. These valuable opportunities include but are not limited to:

  • Health Career Summer Camp – Middle School students
  • Public Health Advisory Council – High School and Community College/University students
  • AHEC College Enrichment Program – Community College/University students
  • AHEC Scholars Program – Community College/University students currently enrolled in a health professions program
  • Volunteering Services – Community College/University and High School students
  • Educational Presentations – All Grade Levels

Community Health Worker (CHW) Certifications: A CHW is a trusted member with a close understanding of the ethnicity, language, socio-economic status and life experiences of the community served who provides social support, participate in clinical research, provide community health and information and patient navigation and follow up.  The Southwest Border AHEC is a Community Health Worker training site. Continuing Education (CE) Assistance:  The Southwest Border AHEC supports didactic and experiential training activities focused on Interprofessional and Practice for currently practicing health professionals. Our center serves healthcare professionals and provides CE credits for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) – Applicable for most health professionals including CHWs.  If your organization is interested in garnering continuing education credits for your next event give us a call or e-mail HoffmanB@uthscsa.edu.
