MRGB AHEC Elects New Student Officers

Laredo, Texas – The MRGB-AHEC student leadership program members met on Saturday, December 16th at the MRGB-AHEC main office. This gathering served as the annual meeting for the membership which is made up of 500+ members. The day’s highlight motivated students to learn about the democratic election process and the importance of exercising the right to vote. The student group nominated several students for the various officer positions. Each student who accepted the nomination and showed an interest in serving as an officer was given time to present their qualifications, their plans to help improve the student activities and encouraged everyone to exercise their right to vote. Following the election of officers, students continued to organize themselves for the upcoming holiday season and prioritized the volunteer projects already scheduled. These community projects are geared to help improve the lives of various groups in the community including veterans, the elderly, children and those living in the outlying areas of the County of Webb. In addition, students have also agreed to focus on helping the environment by adopting Lake Casa Blanca State Park for a day and helping to beautify it by removing debris and trash. The MRGB-AHEC student leadership program includes students from all area high schools currently enrolled in grades 9th through 12thgrade. In addition, students enjoyed a day filled with valuable information pertaining to community projects, fun activities and comradery. “It is always rewarding to witness our youth become motivated about helping others and serving as role models for their siblings” remarked Julie Bazan, MRGB-AHEC Executive Director.
