Madonna Center Wellness Fair 2017
On Saturday, October 21, 2017, Madonna Center, Inc. in partnership with South Central AHEC hosted a free community wellness fair for the Westside community. A total of 32 community agencies and organizations participated, providing free health screening services, resources, information and activities to over 200 adults and children. Madonna Center, Inc. is a not for profit community center that provides social services, support, education, empowerment and involvement to the Westside community of San Antonio. Some of the services provided includes blood pressure and glucose check by UT College of Pharmacy “Project Collaborate” student group and the UT Health SA Nursing students, diabetes counseling by Raquel L. Romero, a certified diabetes educator, nutrition information by the San Antonio Food Bank, college application and scholarships information from the San Antonio Education Partnership and women’s health from the Martinez Street Women’s Center. The event also provided free food, music, children’s activities, Tai-Chi, Zumba, and DrumFit demonstrations and Folklorico dancers to engage with the community and promote the wellness of one’s body, mind, and spirit. Madonna Center, Inc. hopes to continue the wellness fair on a yearly basis to provide vital information and resources to the Westside community.
