MRGB AHEC Receives Collaboration Award

On Tuesday, December 19th, the Area Health Education Center of the Mid Rio Grande Border (MRGB-AHEC) was recognized and received the Collaboration Award by the Workforce Solutions for South Texas. This award was presented to the MRGB-AHEC for the contributions made in support of the Summer Earn & Learn Program and for being a strong partner and supporter of the Workforce Solutions System.

The Summer Earn & Learn Program is a statewide initiative that provides employable skills training and a paid work experience for students with disabilities during the summer. The goal of this program is to integrate talented individuals into the workplace and to help them plan their future and identify career goals. The participants who are a part of this program gain valuable work experience, learn valuable skills in a real-world setting and develop soft skills to help them become college and career ready. The MRGB-AHEC embraced the initiative through collective efforts and successfully teamed up with Workforce Solutions for South Texas to benefit local job seekers. “At AHEC, we are humbled and honored to be part of the Workforce Solutions’ extended family and we will continue to work together for the betterment of our community,” stated Julie Bazan, MRGB-AHEC Executive Director.

The Area Health Education Center of the Mid Rio Grande Border Area is an outreach program under the UT Health San Antonio and is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization with a mission to enhance the quality of life in our communities by increasing the number of well-trained health care workers; enhancing academic resources; and fostering a healthy life style through community education programs.
