The Southwest Boarder AHEC Certifes Students for CPR

Earlier this fall, the Southwest Boarder AHEC coordinated a Heartsaver/AED/First Aid Certification Class for students at the Health Science Del Rio High School (San Felipe Del Rio CISD). Developed by the American Heart Association, Heart saver CPR AED, is a video based, instructor-led course used to teach CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve individuals who are choking. The training was conducted by 2 instructors who are part of the Air Evac Life Team: Carrie Hill and Allen Shoults. Fourteen were students certified, making this a good opportunity for students to dip their toes in the healthcare field, in addition, a CPR certification can be applied towards summer jobs such as daycare attendant, lifeguard, camp counselor, and more.
