Community Health Clubs

Community Health Clubs (CHCs) in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) are community-based organizations dedicated to improving public health in communities. CHCs are voluntary clubs where members of targeted communities meet once a week for a couple of hours to learn about health issues in their community. In March of 2019, the second phase of Salud con Sabor Latino curriculum was implemented in Cameron and Hidalgo with great success. It includes sessions on nutrition, physical activity, healthy eating portions, body weight movement, knowledge of food labels, mental health, guided tour of a grocery store, and a graduation to celebrate their commitment in adopting a healthy lifestyle. Members of the Community Health Clubs have requested sessions on mental health for future meetings.
